Cards and Art | 101 Goals Update
I wanted to do a quick 101 Goals in 1001 Days update!
Sometime during last year I had a revelation. It’s not anything huge, but it was a mentality shift for me. I am constantly striving to be unique and I was never happy with the way our house was decorated. We have such random furniture and hand me downs, stuff left over from my college apartment, and other randomness. I really appreciate a lot of the things that were given to us, but it’s not a reflection of my own taste. I decided that I was going to slowly, one room at time, revamp things. I want our house to be filled with weird and wonderful things that make me happy to look at them.
One of the first things I decided to do was go get a giant shelf from Ikea and make a toy shelf display. I have collected these toys since I was a kid, and got back into collecting in middle school and high school. There is a point in your life… maybe it’s after college, or when you get married… when you think that you should have a more grown up looking house and pack your toys away. So I did that, and my stuff has been in boxes in garages and attics during our last couples moves. I can’t ever part with this stuff though, and every time I look through it to donate it or figure out what to do, I just end up keeping it because I’m sentimental and I still love it. So a few weeks ago I decided it’s totally fine if I’m a women in her 30’s with toys in her dining room. My Care Bears, Sailor Moon, Powerpuff Girls, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, Futurama, and Bob’s Burgers stuff now all has a home. I organized everything by rainbow order, obviously, and even added some of my husband’s childhood toys on there. (He kept his He-Man and Ninja Turtles all this time so I think he understands me!) It seriously makes me so happy to look at it. I have felt the familiar feeling of “must collect more” coming back, so don’t be surprised if the next time you see this there is more stuff added!
36. Buy original artwork to hang in our home
One of my 101 Goals was to buy more original artwork. I really love having unique pieces hanging around the house, even if right now they end up not matching anything. I’m working on changing that! In fact, I’m planning a lot of my room re-designs around some of these pieces. I am so grateful some of these were gifts from friends and clients – seriously, they will all get special places in my home where I will treasure them! I have tagged the artist when I could if you want to check out their work. I have a lot of other pieces I still need to gather and frame for hanging too.
34. Send cards in the mail to 10 friends
Another goal I recently crossed off the list was sending some cards in the mail. This one was small and easy, but it was fun to send out a little love IRL, covered in stickers. I love getting things in the mail. Anyone want to be cute card penpals? I’m totally game!
I’ll be back soon with some more updates on my goals list!
