Today’s blog is an peacock underwater maternity themed session with the lovely Angela. I might be a bit obsessed with this perfect flowy peacock skirt we found. It floated and moved around so well in the water. She used peacock decor for her baby announcements and so this was perfect for her maternity photoshoot. Her baby boy will be arriving any day now – so exciting!
We also got a chance to play with some sweet water-safe string lights made by Revel Gear. They come in all different colors, including multi-color, and are solar powered – perfect for camping, patios, or putting in the water. Check ’em out!
Underwater portraits are time and energy intensive. I always tell people it is not at all as calm and glamorous as the final photos come out. After getting used to the water, we have to practice our breathing techniques and experiment with the wardrobe and props. Sometimes things are a fail, but sometimes they work great. I may take 100 shots to get one perfect one. I look for a ton of different things happening at once like the light, expressions, body positioning, and movement. My goggles are leaking and and fingers are pruney, but I ignore all of this and we try the pose one more time. I get home from these shoots exhausted and water logged, but when I finally bring myself to unpack my gear and look at the photos, I get excited all over again. There is just something about the way these look like a painting with the reflections from the top of the water that draws me in every time.
