Underwater Maternity Photography | Denver Session

September 2, 2015

Underwater maternity photography is such a unique way to celebrate your pregnancy.

I am super thrilled to share this underwater maternity session today. I took the plunge (literally) and got some new underwater camera gear, and couldn’t wait to try it out. My lovely mermaid Jennifer is actually a wonderful photographer herself, and she agreed to come and model for me. I can’t get over how our tulle skirt floated and danced in the water – it was just perfect with her baby bump and the whole session was mermaidtastic!

Jennifer has one adorable daughter already, and told me that her daughter thinks these are the most amazing photos ever, and they get the “toddler stamp of approval”. I think it’s so cool that her daughter sees Mom as brave and even a bit magical for being in these underwater mermaid photos.

Jennifer was a rock star, especially because posing underwater is really hard and takes some time to get used to. There are so many more variables to deal with than on dry land, and it’s a bit less glamorous in real life than it may seem from the photos. We get water up our noses, have to figure out how not to get legs caught in tulle, and I go home with plastic bags full of heavy, wet skirts and towels, but it is so worth it. I am loving doing these pool sessions more and more each time, and am just happy to find people who think it’s as cool and rebellious as I do!
