My Milk Bath Maternity Session

You may have noticed I’ve been a little quiet here on the blog, and that my studio has been closed for a few months. If you follow my instagram you know I’ve been on maternity leave after welcoming my new daughter to the world in February! Before she arrived I made sure to do my own milk bath maternity session. I wanted to experience this type of session from the other side of the camera, just like my clients do.

I didn’t enjoy my pregnancy. I know you’re not really supposed to say that, but it’s true. I felt sick, tired, and unlike my normal self. I had to take a break from dancing, teaching fitness classes, and my photo sessions. On paper my pregnancy was easy – baby or I didn’t have any major complications – but it just wasn’t my favorite. I am sharing this because I almost skipped out on taking these maternity photos. I just was not in the mood to document this time. I didn’t have enough energy, it felt like too much work, I had nothing to wear… I had plenty of excuses!

My friends encouraged me, and I had the feeling I’d regret it later if I didn’t take the time to make these portraits. When you’re in the middle of your pregnancy it’s like time has slowed down. It feels like baby will never come and you’ll be uncomfortable forever. After the baby’s here time becomes a total blur and I can’t believe it’s already been 2 months since my baby was born. Now looking back on these I can confidently say I’m so glad I took the time to do a maternity milk bath session. I will have these images to look back on that capture the time in my life. I know I will want to remember it and will show these to my daughter someday.

I want to thank my team of ladies who helped me make this shoot possible. Lark Mervine, my fabulous makeup artist who made me feel glam when I wasn’t my glammiest. Lindsay Ragsdale, who lent her artistic mind and took these photos for me. Lauren and Delilah, for being the most awesome assistants – moving flowers and around and keeping my legs warm. I love you all!

I hope you enjoy the themes I chose! The citrus fruit is a little nod to my main pregnancy craving, the nintendo themed milk bath was my husband’s idea and actually used our ornaments from our Christmas tree! I also got some fun flowers for a colorful bath set. Here are a few images from my own milk bath maternity session.

If I can do this type of session, so can you. Get in touch and let’s plan something magical. I promise to make it as easy and comfy as possible for you!
